Down the Mekong Delta, Day 2, January 20

We spent the night in Can Tho. We got up in the morning and boarded a boat to take us to the Cai Rang floating market. This is the largest floating market in the Mekong Delta.
People bring their goods to sell on the boats they live in. They sell in large quantities and their goods are used by restaruants or smaller venders to sell in town.

Onions for sale.

The river was crowded with boats.

People advertise the product they are selling by tying an example of their produce to a long pole that sticks up in the air.

After our visit to the market we headed upstream to tour a rice field and have lunch.

Walking through the jungle to the rice field.

The rice field from which the snakes and snails they were serving for lunch were taken.

Lunch choices: fish, frog, snake.

Snake, rats

Live snakes from the rice fields that they cooked for lunch. You could pick out your own snake for eating.

Lunch of snails gathered from the rice field.

Snake for lunch?? It seemed to be over cooked and didn't have much flavor.

We tried the snails, snake and frogs for lunch and a vegtable, shrimp rice roll.

Lotus flower.

After lunch we returned to town and back to our hotel. We boarded the bus for the 4 1/2 ride to Chou Doc.
